In an age of detached objectivity and instant, superficial gratification of vanity served through ‘Selfies’, I find it even more urgent to paint self portraits as a desperate attempt to maintain a connection with the self and hence a semblance of reality. ‘Still Loving You’ is a personal and subjective expression of the self. It is a metaphorical self portrait that symbolizes the inward journey. The monkey crept up on me as that sense of self that one experiences in an introspective foray in the most unguarded and intimate encounter with the ‘self’. My companion, my protector, an extension of my uninhibited self, symbolizes my connection to the animal world and primal nature.
