I’m a narcissist but I don’t like people looking at pictures of me. The aversion to a display of the self and the inherent reclusive proclivities is a theme I have explored while painting large, cropped, or blurred self portraits. This self-portrait comes from a photograph taken from a digital camera in the age of digital camera selfies. The carefully curated composition with the camera and subject sandwiched between two mirrors creates the ‘front-facing camera’. The resultant sheared image ironically highlights the very aversion/awkwardness it is designed to hide.
